"My artworks are usually about my life experiences, like a diary where one put his/her reflections. Some have hidden meanings, some have obvious ones. There can also be those which appear aimless or as mere products of my fixations. But the bottom line is to capture a thought or encounter in the most honest way.  I guess I am in pursuit of creating artworks which represent my life as a human being, symbolic pieces that can transcend reality and rationality, and directly pierce through the subconscious. But it is not about shock-value. It’s about what is valuable.  Some people say that “the soul never forgets.” Despite the huge and many changes in our lives, there will be things that will remain the same. The heart, the subconscious, or the soul—whatever we call it—stays. And those recurring memories or feelings, things we can consider as a collective blueprint of humanity, are what inspire me as an artist. I grew up in a family where I can’t have the luxury of wasting material things. And with my humbling background, I learned to appreciate the little things. Nothing, or no one, should be taken for granted. I remember saving scratch papers to be thrown away, giving its bare back a cloak of doodles, and I think that stayed in me. I still enjoy repurposing materials, especially those that are neglected.  Reminiscing and reliving those things through art make me feel alive, and give me optimism of continuing to live it up as an artist and human being." - Nonie
